Polar Bear Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Kentucky ![]() Join us for one of the most heartwarming events of the year! 2012 Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Kentucky February 18, 2012 at Texas Roadhouse, Richmond Road. Volunteer opportunities are available for the following areas:

New Life Day Center The New Life Day Center is a new center in Lexington, KY that was opened by the Lexington Leadership Foundation in December of 2011. The center is a place for the homeless in Lexington to get inside, and out of the elements during the daytime from the hours of 9-4. The center offers a shelter from the weather and provides coffee, juice, as well as a friendly face to its users. There are lockers where individuals can store their belongs, van services to help transport people to various area services that includes Lexington Mental Health and Veterans Affairs. The New Life Day Center needs volunteers with bag storage, security, cleaning, and serving coffee. They have two volunteer shifts; 9-12:30 and 12:30-4:00. This is Monday – Friday only. Junior Achievement is a non-profit organization that partners with volunteers from the business community to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Volunteers teach elementary students about financial literacy and their roles as individuals, workers and consumers, and they prepare middle/high school students for key economic and workforce issues they may face. All materials and curricula are provided by Junior Achievement and developed specifically for each grade level. Volunteers receive training before entering the classroom.
