"BG Magazine's New in the Blue - What's Happening around Lexington"

The BG Magazine spring issue is out… and all it takes is sending a quick email to get on the subscription list!

I’m Meredith Lane and am the editor of BG Magazine, a publication geared towards young professionals and creatives in the Central Kentucky area. BG has partnered with LYPA in order to better inform and promote YOU—the successful and impressive young professionals in this growing organization.

We are excited to have just released our spring issue with blogger Matt Jones on the cover, who is the founder of KentuckySportsRadio.com, the host of KSTV and a writer for CBS Sports, just to name a few of his gigs.

This issue also spotlights some of the many things going on around Lexington… from new restaurants opening, to city street projects, to fun events... and a lot more! For example:

Delicious Eats:
Within six months Orange Leaf has doubled its locations across the country. There are almost 100 self-serve frozen yogurt shops now, and four of them are in Lexington. The first one, in Tiverton Center, was opened last fall by owners Jeremiah Sizemore, Evan Morris and Bryce Anderson.

They’ve enlisted outside investors for three more stores that opened in March and April in Brighton Place, Chevy Chase and Palomar Centre, in former Graeter’s Ice Cream spots. Look for Orange Leaf Kentucky to expand into Madison and Jessamine counties by year’s end.

Infrastructure:
The second phase of streetscape work along Main Street began in February, with the goal of installing wider ADA-compliant sidewalks, along with curbside rain gardens. Storm and sanitary sewers will be replaced, as needed. When the project is finished, downtown Lexington will have new sidewalks between Broadway and Elm Tree Lane on Main, and between Broadway and Limestone Street on Vine.

Also, a section of Clays Mill Road is going to be widened. Phase one should be finished late this year, involving making a one-mile stretch from Keithshire Way to Higbee Mill three lanes.

Events:
The first 5 Across event in 2010 was so awesome, Awesome Inc. and the Lexington Venture Club are having them every other month. It’s a gathering of entrepreneurs (people with ideas) and investors (people with checkbooks) for 5 pitches with 5 slides in 5 minutes at 5 p.m. for one $500 prize. Come watch in April, June, August and October or sign up to participate at 5across.org.

Plus, the 12th annual Women’s Business & Leadership Conference is May 18 at the Hilton Lexington/Downtown. Presented by Women Leading Kentucky, keynote speakers include Camille Jayne, CEO of the Jayne Group, and Laura Liswood of the Council of Women World Leaders. Registration is $175 online at womenleadingky.com.

These are just some of the types of stories we highlight in BG Magazine, plus a lot more! Also, as an added perk to your LYPA membership, Lane Communications is offering you a complimentary subscription to BG Magazine. All you have to do is send us an email with your name, company, title and mailing address to circulation@lanereport.com and you’re on the list!

If you have story ideas for things you think we should feature, including young entrepreneurs, new businesses opening, cool events, or anything else innovative and exciting, please email me at meredithlane@insightbb.com.  Find us on Facebook too!
