LYPA LeadershipSteering Council Officers![]() President - Brittney Edwards president@lypa.org I have been actively involved with LYPA for more than five years. I am motivated and dedicated to making LYPA a superior organization for young professionals in the Lexington area. I served as Vice President in 2011, Communications Chair in 2010 and actively participated in the community involvement and professional development committees in the preceding years.
My professional experience is in marketing and project management, and I have a background in managing client relationships, marketing programs, events and creative services projects. I currently work as the Marketing Coordinator for Frontier Nursing University managing the overall marketing activities including advertising and events. I am a member of the Junior League of Lexington, the Lexington Chapter of the American Advertising Federation, the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the UK Alumni Association. I also volunteer for many different non-profit organizations and charity events in the local community.
I feel strongly about providing a social and support network for young professionals in the Lexington area. I truly believe that the young professional community represents the future of Lexington, and LYPA provides a balance of professional, social and philanthropic opportunities for these young leaders. I hope to continue to grow and improve the organization by recruiting new members, encouraging members to be more involved in the local community, and increasing and enhancing the professional development and community focused opportunities and events that LYPA provides. I have served as the Community Involvement Committee Chair for the past year. During that time I helped organize two highly successful fundraisers (Spring raffle and Fall cornhole tournament), scheduled monthly volunteer opportunities for our members, participated in a Habitat for Humanity Build with other LYPA members, and am currently planning the 2011 Christmas Party/Toy Drive. I have also filed LYPA’s non-profit tax returns for the past two years. I graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2008 with degrees in Accounting and Finance and currently work as a Certified Public Accountant at Crowe Horwath. In 2012 I want to create the organization’s first annual budget, strengthen our financial reporting, and double the amount of funds we raise and donate to local charities. I have met a lot of great people and formed life-long relationships as a member of LYPA. I will work to expand our membership so that other area young professionals can have the same great experiences that I have had as a LYPA member. As someone who has lived in the Lexington area my entire life, and works in the heart of downtown, I am committed to doing my part to transform our region into a great area for young professionals. ![]() Treasurer – Joey Tucker treasurer@lypa.org I am originally from Birmingham, Alabama and graduated from Auburn University in December of 2006. I worked in Birmingham at a public accounting firm until I moved to Kentucky in February of 2011. I am a CPA and currently working in the Federal Tax Department at Crowe Horwath. I have worked with various nonprofit organizations and am familiar with the bookkeeping and accounting involved. I joined LYPA in 2011 and have participated in the various community and professional events. I have also been involved with God’s Pantry and Habitat for Humanity. ![]() Secretary – Marlena Stephens secretary@lypa.org I am a native Lexingtonian. I graduated from Truman State
University in Kirksville, MO with Bachelors in Health Sciences and
Spanish. After graduating from TSU I moved back to Lexington and
pursued a career as a Medical Technologist at UK Hospital in the clinical
labs, which is where my interest in cancer research started.
I wanted to help cancer patients in every aspect of their care and decided
to go back to school and received my Masters in Health Admistration from
UK. I then worked at Markey Cancer Center next in Blood and Marrow
Transplant and now currently work as a Cancer Research Coordinator at Central
Baptist Hospital. ![]() Membership Chair - Lindsey Jones membership@lypa.org I joined LYPA in the fall of 2009 in the hopes of meeting other young professionals and becoming more involved in the Lexington community. During my time in LYPA, I have served as a member of the Community Involvement Committee, volunteered at numerous charity events, and organized the 1st LYPA volleyball team.
However, my largest contribution to the organization has been through my service as the 2011 Professional Development Committee Chair. Through this position, I created a valuable partnership between LYPA and the University of Kentucky. Together we have hosted events such as a career fair, professionalism workshop, and several informal networking nights with UK students. This partnership is valuable because it allows LYPA members to share advice and experiences with students and spread the LYPA name for future recruitment purposes. My greatest achievement as Professional Development Committee Chair was the planning and execution of the annual LYPA Rising Stars awards banquet in late-September. In 2011, over 100 people were in attendance and LYPA had the pleasure of recognizing eight outstanding young professionals in our community.
I look forward to continuing my involvement in the LYPA steering council as the 2012 Membership Committee Chair. My role involves planning several happy hours and membership bashes for current members in addition to arranging new member orientations to welcome other young professionals into our organization. My goal is to increase the value of your LYPA membership through unique member benefits and social events. ![]() Professional Development Chair - Lindsay Griffith development@lypa.org I am originally from Southern California and the Gulf Coast. I earned a Bachelor’s in psychology and Spanish from The University of Alabama in 2008 and a Master’s in Public Administration in 2011 from the University of Kentucky. I now work as the Resource Development Coordinator for Bluegrass Community and Technical College.
Since moving to Lexington in 2009, I have been a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, serving first as the Thoroughbred Chapter President and now on the National Philanthropy Day Committee for the Bluegrass Chapter. I am a Ronald McDonald House volunteer and member of the Bluegrass Red Shoe Society.
I joined LYPA this summer to meet new people, and now, as Professional Development Chair, I plan to provide you with plenty of opportunities for involvement, from networking to continuing education and collaboration with other Lexington groups. I will also be planning and organizing our annual Rising Stars banquet. ![]() Community Involvement Chair - Brennan Waters community@lypa.org I grew up in Mobile, Alabama and graduated from Auburn University in 2007 with a double major in history and political science. After graduation I moved to Lexington to start my printing and publishing business focusing on the student population at the University of Kentucky. After two successful years in Lexington I have expanded to the University of Alabama, Auburn University, the University of Colorado at Boulder, and the University of Florida with the goal of further expansion in 2012.
I joined LYPA with the goal of meeting new people and becoming more active in the Lexington community. LYPA members have the goal of developing business relationships as well as friendships through its member base. Not only should LYPA members focus on developing strong personal relationships with each other, but they should also be concerned with giving back to the local community. Because of how important I feel this is to the LYPA member base, I have decided to run for the Community Involvement Chair position.
As the Community Involvement Chair I will organize and plan events that offer opportunities for LYPA members to interact with each while giving back to the community. These events will include Habitat for Humanity builds, fund raisers for various organizations, and other volunteer opportunities. ![]() Communications Chair - Kimberly Boblitt communications@lypa.org
I grew up
Mt. Washington, KY and moved to Lexington in 2004 to attend UK. I graduated
from UK in 2008 where I earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration with a
major in marketing. In 2008, I began my career at Lexmark International as a
graphic designer in Corporate Communications. I am currently working on the
World Wide Marketing team as graphic designer and project manager. In my
project manager role I am solely responsible for worldwide product photography
from concept through completion. I have worked on numerous brochures,
advertisements and packaging in the 3.5 years since joining Lexmark. I have a
strong work ethic and a passion for design.
I joined LYPA in 2010 with the goal of becoming more involved in the community and as an opportunity to network with other young professionals. I wanted to become more involved within the organization so I elected to run for Communications Chair in 2011. I felt that my professional experience would prove valuable to this position. I enjoyed being part of the Steering Council in 2011 and am excited to be serving a second term as the 2012 Communications Chair. ![]() Public Relations Chair - Brian Stephens My name is Brian Stephens, and I am happy to be the Public Relations Chair with LYPA for 2012. I have held various positions in my professional career, currently I am the Marketing Director for Panasonic Appliances of America. I have been with Panasonic for almost 5 months and have been involved in various projects such as business trend planning and product development. I enjoy the creativity and flexibility that my current position allows me. I have over 7 years of experience in business development and planning as well as the main contributor in my companies marketing/PR departments. For 2012, I am the Co-chair for the Relay for Life event here in Fayette County. Last year we had a great year and achieved 120% of our goal. Over the past two years in working with Relay I have seen a great need for young professionals to get involved. It is our responsibility as young professionals to continue great events throughout Lexington, and help various groups continue to grow. Non-profit groups that I volunteer for include the American Cancer Society, United Way, and the Lexington Humane Society. With each group purely relying on fund-raising, it is imperative that we spread the word and get not only members of LYPA involved, but our entire community as well. Most of my professional experience has been a great asset to me in my new role. Currently I am working toward a greater understanding of Social Media development and I am looking forward to using this knowledge to aid in my professional projects as well as for Relay for Life. Being a leader with relay has been such a rewarding experience. I have watched how our committee has grown and learned to deal with any obstacles to achieve goals that some thought were impossible. With my experience in leading non-profit groups I have utilized these experiences to help develop my career and grow professionally. When a group of people get together who have great passion and a desire to achieve, then nothing is impossible. I look forward to 2012 and making this the most successful year ever for Panasonic, Relay and LYPA. To do this I would like to help encourage all community groups to get involved in not only Relay but other community organizations also. ![]() Community Outreach Chair - Rasheedah El-Amin outreach@lypa.org
I am a Lexingtonian- born and raised. I received my degree in Arts Administration at UK, I’ve worked in the arts ever since. I am also co-creator of a recently formed program called Art After Hours- Lex. The goal of Art After Hours (AAH) is to bring awareness of local art organizations to young professionals and the young at heart. AAH and LYPA have similar goals of bringing awareness to our demographic, which is why I want to be more involved as an officer. I want to become a part of LYPA because many people believe there aren’t many ways to get involved in Lexington- and I don’t find that to be true. There are many organizations we can partner with and I want to help LYPA do that. As a group, we can make a difference in our community. |
